Mini FaceliftAbout The Procedure A Mini Facelift, intended to target the neck and lower two-thirds of the face, repositions the skin to remove sagginess and wrinkling. Results are quickly evident and natural, revealing smoother, more youthful facial contours and skin. Many mini-facelift patients are in the early stages of visible aging or seeking enhancement of a previously performed facelift.
Procedure Description There are two basic procedures which can be performed, either individually or combined.
The anterior mini is for patients concerned about their lower face. An anesthetic solution is injected into the area in front of the ears. This solution will numb the lower face, inhibit bleeding, and gently separate the skin from the underlying tissue. Once the area is numb, small incisions are made beginning just in front of the ear and proceed up into the hairline. Incisions within the hair require no shaving. The fascial plane is gently pulled to tighten the skin, and is supported with deep sutures. Excess skin is tailored, and incisions are closed with 6 to 8 fine sutures.
A posterior mini facelift, sometimes referred to as a mini neck-lift, is for people concerned about the neck and jowl area. An anesthetic solution is injected behind the ears. This solution will numb the lower face and neck and inhibit bleeding in the area. Once the area is numb, small incisions are made behind the ear and proceed up into the hairline. The skin is elevated and gently redraped. Two deep sutures are made in the fascial plane and excess skin is tailored. Eight to 10 fine sutures close the incisions.
Best Candidates for Mini Facelift Surgery Typically between 30 and 65 years old, the best candidates for Mini Facelift are in good health with mild to moderate lower facial and/or neck laxity. The mini facelift is ideal for patients who want to stay ahead of the aging process. It is also effective as a follow-up for patients who previously had full facelifts, but desire additional rejuvenation of the face and/or neck area.
Length of the Procedure A Mini-Facelift takes 40 to 90 minutes, depending on the extent of the procedure.
Anesthesia A Mini-Facelift is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation, but in some cases general anesthesia may be used.
Inpatient or Outpatient? Mini-Facelift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis.
Possible Side Effects Mini-Facelift surgery side effects include temporary discomfort, bruising, and numbness.
Anesthesia Many patients are able to return to work just several days after surgery. Mini-Facelift patients return home with a bandage over the area, and should continue to wear this for the first 48 hours after surgery. Sutures are usually removed about one week after surgery.

Duration of Results Mini-facelift results can last for about 5 to 10 years, but depend on the patient's lifestyle and will be affected by continued aging, gravity, and the elements.
Risks Risks of Mini-facelift surgery include bleeding beneath the skin, temporary hair loss at the incision sites and thickening of scars. Asymmetry is possible, although most likely visible only to you. Severe asymmetry after a facelift is rare, as is nerve injury that leads to weakness of a portion of the face. If it does occur, it is usually temporary. You may need minor revisions after your facelift to achieve your goals when tissues begin to loosen.
Cost Expect to pay $3,500 to $5,000 for Mini Facelift surgery
